Tsuchigari’s Top 5 Ways of Making Your Blog Better

How often do we read a blog and say to ourselves, “Wow, I wish my blog could be like that.”  Well dear readers, first of all you better not be saying that about mine!  Second, wishing will not make your blog better, but a little work can.

If the grass is greener on the other side then you better start fertilizing!

So here you have it, Tsuchigari’s top 5 ways to make your blog better.

1.  Use the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep it simple, smarty).  Visually speaking, make your blog easy to read.  I learned the hard way that a dark background and light text makes reading hard.  Also keep your widgets in check,  only use what is essential and ditch the rest.

2. Get regular. Set a blogging schedule and stick to it.  Decide how often and what time you will post.  I do one post daily, usually written the day before, and use the scheduler  to put it up first thing the next morning when I know people will be reading.  A schedule increases your visibility with search engines which increases readership.

3. Be interesting. There are hundreds of blogs that center around the mundane thoughts and actions of average people.  Please don’t use a blog as a personal diary unless you are a celebrity. Not many people will want to read about you losing your keys.  Find niche that meshes with your personality and blog about that, it might be a new skill you are learning, or a past-time you love.

4. Be upbeat. At least most of the time keep a positive outlook.  Most people want to read things that make them smile or inspire them.  If it can’t be positive at least try to make it humorous.  The occasional downer post is alright, a downer blog will drive away your readers.

5. Use reliable sources. You might be brilliant, a super genius even, but at times you will need to refer to other sources.  Be sure to include the links to those sources, it gives you credibility and gives them the recognition.  It also increases the status of your blog.  On the same note, be sure to double-check for spelling and grammar errors and read through the post before publishing.

As always, Happy Writing!
