YouTube Clip: Lost Generation

It’s Monday motivation time!  This week’s clip was the second place winner in the “AARP U @ 50” contest and has generated lots of buzz around the internet.  The contest asked for short videos from people between 18 and 30 talking about what they expect their lives to be like at age 50.

This clip speaks to me.  It gives a voice to my worries about what attitudes will abound in the young people of the future.  Today, apathy is easier than ever, we live in our sheltered boxes and only pay attention to what directly affects us.  It’s good to hear that at least someone out there wants to reach out and shake things up.

The clip is also a great lesson about throwing off the stereotype of this generation.  It’s easy to assume that most teenagers care more about their looks and twitter feeds than anything with lasting value.  Sadly this is true with plenty of kids out there.  They don’t have any reason or motivation to think otherwise.  We can reach out and help these kids see the opportunities waiting to be created in the world around them.  We can do it in our writing and our actions.  If we assume they will fail, they will.  We must see their potential and help them find it.

Ok, time to put away the soapbox.  There’s writing to be done, my children to influence, and a world to save!

Thank you to Nancy at Spirit Lights the Way for helping me find this clip after I’d forgotten what it was called.  Go visit her site, she’s got all sorts of great posts on living life to its fullest.
